Spiced Saffron
Natural saffron comes from the red stigmas of Crocus sativus, and its aroma is paradoxical: spice, soft floral, and hay/honey nuances, sometimes with a clean “heated” leather facet. That is why saffron slots so well into dry woods: it doesn’t behave like pepper or cinnamon; it behaves like texture – a luxurious patina.
Saffron’s price isn’t marketing – it’s agriculture and labor. It’s harvested by hand, within a short bloom window. It takes enormous effort to gather meaningful quantities: estimates suggest ~370–470 labor hours to collect stigmas from ~150,000 flowers to produce 1 kg of saffron. A volatile and precious supply.

I can be a bit more selective than before and now get a thrill only from new discoveries in the genre. Shaman hits the spot perfectly: a luminous leather with a quiet, distant floral note and a faintly vanillic Kraft-paper character. It is utterly beautiful. I would love to know who composed this marvel.
